Total training
The Hairstylist apprenticeship is set at 3,500 hours, or approximately two years, combining workplace and in-school learning.
On-the-job experience
The apprenticeship includes 3,020 hours of supervised on-the-job work experience.
In-school training
The program includes 480 hours of in-school instruction across two levels.
Legal work status
To practise legally, a person needs a Registered Training Agreement, Provisional Certificate of Qualification or Certificate of Qualification.
Certificate of Qualification
Hairstylist has a certifying examination; successful candidates receive an Ontario Certificate of Qualification.
Register and renewal
A legal practitioner must appear on the Skilled Trades Ontario Public Register, and a Certificate of Qualification must be renewed annually.
